El Palmar: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Waukesha

Just stopped in to satisfy a need for tacos and I wasn't disappointed! Our server was a very friendly gentleman. The food came out rather quickly. And the tacos and tamales were excellent. My daughter said to remember this place and she's kinda picky. So if that tells you anything

Love the traditional feel of this little gem. Fast, friendly service. Chips and salsa were complimentary, but so so at best. The tacos were amazing! Asada, carnitas and El Pastor...wonderful flavor! Definitely a great taco spot!!

Warning: They do not serve margaritas. Beer is available, but no booze. This place is small, with only 6-8 tables, and far from polished, but the staff is friendly and the food is good. They start you with chips and salsa, and I appreciated that the salsa had more flavor and bite than most Mexican restaurants that play it safer. I had the combination fajitas seen pictured here, and the person I was with had the shrimp. They do not peel all of the shrimp that they cook. They are mixed in with everything else with the tails still on, and sometimes with shell. The food comes out quickly and there is a little bar area where you can play gambling machines and wait for a carryout.

By far the best tacos I've had in Wisconsin and one of the best I've had in years. Serve hot right off the flat top. One bite and I was transported to the food trucks in Playa Del Carmen. I ordered every tacos on the menu and everyone is a banger. Goat and taco Loco are my favorite. We also had the menudo; this was lacking in flavor and tasted a bit watered down. A bit disappointing considering how amazing the tacos were.

Service was fine, they were very nice. We didn’t get a check or boxes until we got up to ask. Enchilada sauce was interesting.. and the corn tortillas were quite dry. The steak tacos were dry. The flavor was there but just okay food.

In short, Taqueria El Palmar has fantastic food that is cheaper and quicker than most fast food places. I try about every Mexican place I can find, and this is the real stuff! I was pleased to find mole (Aztec style "sauce"). My wife got her "standard" Carne asada tacos, and we were both pleased that food came about 5 min. after ordering, and we both ate well for $15. Keep in mind that a taqueria is by nature an informal lunch/dinner place more like fast food. No margaritas, but the food is great and they even have "all-day breakfast."

This was a fantastic restaurant that was open late when I went and had amazing food. It was a great experience and the staff was super nice. The place is also very clean!

This place is great! The service was super fast and all the food was fresh. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. I think the food basically came as fast as you would get something from most any quick service restaurant. Would recommend for anybody who likes authentic Mexican food.
